New Orleans, Louisiana: a Visitor's Guide


New Orleans, Louisiana is also known as the "Big easy", and it is the largest city in the state, and amongst the oldest cities in the America. The city was devastated in 2005 by hurricane Katrina and was evacuated. Many areas of the city were flooded and major damage was done by the hurricane and the broken levees. Since then the city of New Orleans, Louisiana has been slowly returning to normal as more and more people return to the city.

With the city returning to normalcy the reasons for visiting are increasing every day. New Orleans, Louisiana is more popularly known as a city rich in history and French heritage, culture, great food, jazz music, and the world famous Mardi Gras celebrations. The city also offers visitors a chance to visit and see museums, gardens, aquariums, nightclubs, and bars. Families that visit the city will find themselves having a fun-filled holiday with lots of things to do.

Places to visit

One of the most popular things to do in New Orleans, Louisiana is to go on a boat ride in the Mississippi river. These tours give you much information about the city and along the way; you will be stopping at the historic site, Chalmette Battlefield.

The swamp tour gives you a true New Orleans, Louisiana experience because the city is situated in the middle of a massive swamp.

You can also get a glimpse in to the historical past of the city dating back three centuries by visiting the Musee Conti Wax Museum. Here you will find noted historical figures including Louis Armstrong and Voodoo queen Marie Laveau.
